Research Experience

2010-2011 - Investigation of Primary Marine Aerosol as a member of CAICE (http://caice.ucsd.edu/CAICE_Home/CAICE_Home.html)

Description: Participated in planning of experiments to characterize primary marine aerosol produced through wavebreaking.  Analyze the physical properties of these particles and analyzing their properties compared to those produced by common artificial aerosol generation methods (glass fritted discs, plunging jets).

2008-2010 - Studies toward the activation of C-H bonds using platinum organometallic complexes.

Description: Worked closely with graduate student Kyle Grice in planning and investigating the properties of a platinum complex, platinum (II) dimethyl (amino-pyridal-di-tertbutyl phosphine), which was shown to activate the C-H bond of benzene molecules.

Community Outreach

2011 - SEA Days: Breathing in Climate Change (Birch Aquarium, La Jolla, CA)

Organized Prather lab representation and planning hands-on demos for the public to interract with as a means of demonstrating some principles of atmospheric science.

2011 - Monthly Outreach at Paul Ecke Elementary (Encinitas, CA)

Coordinated participating of graduate student, undergraduate, and post-doc representation at a monthly event.  Worked with 5th grade students in supplementing in-class science curriculum with fun and practical chemical demonstrations in conjunction with Skip Pomeroy.  Coordinated the student end of a final assembly for all 3rd-6th graders demonstrating various standard chemical demonstrations.
